Scope and Aims
The program of the 6th School-Conference (14 to 20 October 2001, Kiev, Ukraine) integrates both basic and applied multidisciplinary research that is centered around phase diagrams and thermodynamics of metal, metal-like and oxide materials.
The aim of the School-Conference remains unchanged from the spirit and goals of the 1st School-Seminar, held 23 years ago, namely to bring together scientists in the fields of chemistry, physics, materials science to develop the common views and improve the understanding of fundamental problems of materials design.

Summary
The 6th School-Conference was devoted to the memory of prominent scientists, Academician V.N. Eremenko (1911-1992) and Academician V.M. Svechnikov (1891-1981), whose works created the foundation of famous scientific schools in the field of investigations of the phase equilibria and thermodynamics of metallic systems, that harmonically unite the rushes of physical chemists and metal scientists. V.N.Eremenko was the chairman of four Schools-Seminars "Phase Diagrams in Materials Science", which had taken place in Katsyvely (1978, 1982) and Odessa (1986, 1990).
Active and very concerned participation of famous specialists in the field of materials science (D.Petrov, A.Zakharov, D.Kamenetskaya, I.Aptekar', M.Tylkina, and many others) favoured the recognized authority of the Schools in the former Soviet Union.
One of the main goals of these meetings was to create possibility of combination of experience and knowledge, usual to venerable scientists, with energy of young at maximally beneficial conditions of well-disposed communication, mutual interest and high scientific principality.
Starting with the 5th School-Seminar (Katsyvely, 1996), the conference became international. The 6th School-Conference, like as the 5th, was held under support and active participation of MSI, Materials Science International Services GmbH (Stuttgart, Germany).
