The Second Brazilian Workshop on Computational Thermodynamics will be held in Volta Redonda, RJ during the last week of October 1999 and the first week of November 1999. The Workshop will focus on the applications of computational thermodynamics, optimization, and the applications of diffusion modeling coupled with computational thermodynamics.
Some introductory notes to a basic thermodynamic course are being offered by UFF, as an experiment in teaching thermodynamics with the support of hypertext and computational thermodynamics. André Costa e Silva will apreciate receiving your comments and suggestions. Some selected examples of using Thermo-calc are included, as well as a short guide to its use.
A cooperation project Brasil-Germany (UFF-MSI) is underway. During August 1999, Dr Guenter Effenberg (MSI) and Dr Hans Seifert (MPI-Stuttgart) have visited Brasi. Proposals for cooperation themes under this Brasil-Germany project are being accepted. Fore information please write to andre

TMS-AIME is organizing a Symposium on Computational Thermodynamics and Materials Design on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Dr Larry Kaufman. The Symposium will be held during TMS Annual Meeting, February 2001, New Orleans.
